"Bag Man" and "Manifest Destiny"

An action movie buff and all-around cinephile, Kimani Ray Smith landed his first big break as a stunt performer on Jackie Chan’s Rumble in the Bronx, and has since taken on action roles in Hollywood blockbusters, including I Robot, Salt, A-Team, Twilight, Total Recall and Deadpool. He wrote the CBC Short Film Award-winning Self Projections; co-wrote and directed the television pilot Evidence: The Truth Will Set You Free (shot on location in Giza and London); and wrote and directed the short films Static and Dead Wrong. In 2008, Kimani produced the feature Cole, which premiered at TIFF and won Best Canadian Feature at the Atlantic Film Festival. Kimani then co-wrote and directed the short film Suffer, which won numerous awards on the festival circuit. The success of Suffer kick-started his feature debut, Evil Feed, which premiered at the Toronto After Dark Film Festival and is distributed by Screen Media. The Black and Indigenous director continued to hone his craft, directing over 50 hours of Second Unit on the SyFy series Olympus and Van Helsing, the BBC America/AMC series Dirk Gently’s Holistic Detective Agency, and the Netflix action series Wu Assassins. Kimani also helmed three webisodes for the Syfy series Continuum. Kimani has continued to excel and follow his passion in the world of film and television, directing two episodes of Van Helsing for Syfy.
